Battersea Power Station

Back of House & Retail Unit Alterations

Project Overview:

This project was delivered within the landmark Battersea Power Station building and involved a series of service modifications to back-of-house areas and selected retail units. The aim was to reconfigure key spaces to support future use and enhance long-term access for maintenance, without disrupting the building’s operational environment.

Project Highlights:

  1. Challenging Location: Operating within one of London’s most iconic and complex redevelopment projects required exceptional coordination, particularly given the constrained working areas and limited access.
  2. Service Modifications: Planned shutdowns were carefully scheduled and managed throughout the programme to allow safe alterations to existing M&E services, ensuring minimal impact on surrounding units and infrastructure.
  3. Live Environment: Works took place while the Power Station remained open to the public, requiring continuous communication with stakeholders and the implementation of stringent health and safety measures.
  4. Permit-Based System: All activities were conducted under a strict delivery and works permit system, requiring advanced planning and compliance with site-specific regulations.

Conclusion:

This project demonstrated SB Construction’s ability to deliver sensitive, high-specification alterations within a complex, live retail environment. By managing service shutdowns, working within tight access constraints, and adhering to a rigorous permit-based system, we ensured that future flexibility and operational efficiency were built into the fabric of Battersea Power Station.
