Project Overview:

This 12-week scheme saw the transformation of a former electronics factory in Ryde into a fully operational veterinary practice. The existing structure required significant adaptation to meet clinical requirements, with the site itself presenting logistical challenges due to its position between the historic Isle of Wight Bus Museum and surrounding residential properties.

Project Highlights:

1. Logistics & Access Management: The site’s location required careful coordination to navigate narrow roads, limited residential parking, and active bus movements, ensuring minimal disruption to the surrounding area throughout the works.
2. Structural & Enabling Works: Temporary propping, lead-lining of internal walls, and structural alterations were carried out to accommodate specialist clinical zones and equipment.
3. Roof Works & Protection: Roof alterations included the removal and replacement of skylights, with full scaffold protection installed to ensure safety and weatherproofing during construction.
4. Specialist Installations: Installation of X-ray, dental and theatre equipment formed the core of the surgical and diagnostic areas, alongside a full M&E installation tailored to the operational needs of a modern veterinary environment.
5. Additional Infrastructure Works: The scheme also included new underground drainage and the safe removal of asbestos in compliance with all health and safety requirements.

Conclusion:

SB Construction successfully delivered a fast-paced, technically demanding refurbishment of a disused factory into a fully equipped veterinary facility. Completed in just 12 weeks, the new practice now serves the Ryde community and works in conjunction with neighbouring veterinary clinics across the Isle of Wight, further strengthening the local veterinary network.
