High Street Retail to Nursery Conversion

Conversion of three adjoining High Street retail units into a nursery for Kids Inc. The work needed major structural alterations, temporary works and new services to create a childcare facility on several levels.
Underpinning, new concrete pads, and new steel columns and beams to open up space for playrooms and staff areas, with regular structural engineer reviews throughout.
A new staircase linking all levels, built floor by floor on structural steel, from reception up to the top-floor playroom.
Limited frontage and nearby homes meant deliveries, noise and access were planned carefully.
New power, water, BT and sewer connections, each phased with the local authority and utility companies.
At one stage the client considered full demolition and rebuild. With careful planning and temporary works we kept the original structure, strengthened it, and delivered the nursery in the existing buildings.
